Jury Duty. Unlike voting, jury duty is a requirement for American citizens.

Why I Am Passionate About Jury Trials in Person?

USA: We Lock Up More People Per Capita Than Anyone Else

Twenty-four States lock up more people per capita than the United States of America as a whole.

Unions are bad. Unless you bleed blue or fire engine red. Or teach. Or nurse. Or fly planes. Or employed by the state. Or the feds.   --> Blue-collar workers should be ashamed.

USA: What Do Unions Have To Do With The Law?

Sonja Sohn's "The Slow Hustle" answers this question. To paraphrase one of my favorite lines, "He was a good cop, and they did that to him. What chance does someone like me have against the system?"

USA: What Do Unions Have To Do With The Law?

When the trials involve people with money, it takes 265 Days to determine if a man killed the ex-wife he used to beat and her friend.

Being sequestered for 265 days - is this an argument for trial by virtual jury?

Travis County, TX makes some very good points about serving remotely.

We do what we have to do.

Except when it comes to voting, which is completely optional. There is only one ballot box per county in Texas.

Jury Duty is a frustrating process.

You finally find parking at the courthouse, find out it is not air-conditioned, and now you are expected to weigh the evidence and not just Roman emperor it with a thumbs up or thumbs down upon inspecting the defendant.

Here is a copy of my paper.

I was married by a judge. I should have asked for a jury.

Does this sound familiar? It should. It was a political soundbite during BLM. During Occupy Wallstreet. During March for Science.

Efficiency. If we go virtual, we become more efficient. The defendants who cannot afford bail can essentially be transported from their jail cell to their prison cell. Huzzah.

Democracy v. the Working Class

To paraphrase The Smiths, humans who do the wrong things need to be loved just like everybody else does.

A transportation/scheduling/safety nightmare?

Maybe we should look at bail reform.

Ethan Couch was a 16-year-old with a blood alcohol level 3x the legal limit for an adult - on beer he stole from Wal-Mart - when, driving 70 mph in a 40 mph zone, he lost control of his vehicle and veered into a crowd of people.

Ethan Couch suffered from affluenza.

Is Ivanka a CGI Creation?

A still of Ivanka Trump during her testimony about the January 6th insurrection.

Ivanka Trump Kushner testified before the January 6th Committee virtually.

A percentage of the world lost its mind.

Ivanka's testimony was not real.

The Democrats went to extreme lengths to discredit The Donald by creating a CGI of Ivanka, forcing her avatar to speak disgusting disloyal words.

There is no such thing as an impartial jury because there are no impartial people. There are people that argue on the web for hours about who their favorite character on 'Friends' is.

The Recognition of the Right to Assistance of Counsel

"The concern was that the prosecution could always be assumed to have sufficient funds to fulfill its societal public safety role, but defendants could not always be guaranteed representation if only defendants with sufficient funds were able to acquire representation."

U. S. Constitution - Number Six

The Recognition of the Right to Assistance of Counsel

In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defence.

The Trial Penalty: The Sixth Amendment Right to Trial on the Verge of Extinction and How to Save It

"What is less clear is why, in a nation where folks will literally risk children’s lives to maintain their Second Amendment rights, Americans seem perfectly happy to hand over their Sixth Amendment rights with hardly a thought."

" With more than 97% of criminal cases being resolved by plea in a constitutional system predicated upon the Sixth Amendment right to a trial, the fact of imbalance and injustice in the system is self-evident."

The Practical and Constitutional Issues with Virtual Jury Trials in Criminal Cases

"Part of the problem is no one is advocating for the rights of those accused of a crime. The Sixth Amendment needs some star power.  The First Amendment is protected by the vigilance of news media. The Second Amendment is insulated by the zealousness of NRA. The Sixth Amendment needs a standard bearer. Unfortunately, it appears that those who benefit by the Sixth Amendment are those accused of a crime—not a very sympathetic group."

The Trial Penalty: The Sixth Amendment Right to Trial on the Verge of Extinction and How to Save It

The Practical and Constitutional Issues with Virtual Jury Trials in Criminal Cases

"How will the parties be able to discern whether a juror is actually paying attention to the trial as opposed to catching up on some work on another open tab? Or worse, contemporaneously researching issues arising in testimony with the same technology being used to watch the trial? When jurors are on “mute,” how will the parties know when a juror is being distracted by a screaming child or missing critical testimony because of a neighbor’s noisy landscaping company? Where jurors cannot be fully observed, real-time objections to their circumstances cannot be made."
