All About Me

Ginger Jones

I am a student in her fifties enrolled in Pitt Community College's Paralegal Technology program with a heavy interest in Criminal Justice and Sociology perspectives.

For the last six years, I worked from home. When I made the decision to return to brick and mortar, I decided to find something more fulfilling than an 8-hour playdate with other adults five days a week.

I want to work in the legal field. It was as easy as that.

I suspect I will follow the family tradition of working through my

seventies, retiring sometime after my eightieth, and then promptly keeling over from boredom.*

*Disclaimer: I am not a pathologist, but I have my suspicions.

Jury Trials - Why Do We Need Them

I read an interesting line in Alexis Hall's "Boyfriend Material" that I want to share with you. It sums up my philosophy beautifully.

"The point of a jury trial is that reasonable people - and before you say anything, most people are reasonable - get to decide whether the defendant truly deserves to be punished for their actions. The letter of the law is, at best, half of that question. The other half is compassion."

How High Can I Hang 'Em, Judge?

I find the people who ask this question believe the Walter White's and the Wendy Byrde's and the Jimmy McGill's are heroes.

They are criminals. They. Are. Criminals. THEY ARE CRIMINALS!!!!!!

Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall

"If at first you don't succeed it's only attempted murder" by LadyShay Designs.
It is picturesque text "We cannot fix stupid but we can give it a court date.

The Old Prison

The rows of cells are unroofed,
a flute for the wind's mouth,
who comes with a breath of ice
from the blue caves of the south.

O dark and fierce day:
the wind like an angry bee
hunts for the black honey
in the pits of the hollow sea.

Waves of shadow wash
the empty shell bone-bare,
and like a bone it sings
a bitter song of air.

Who built and laboured here?
The wind and the sea say
-Their cold nest is broken
and they are blown away-

They did not breed nor love,
each in his cell alone
cried as the wind now cries
through this flute of stone.

"My father and his eight siblings grew up in the kind of poverty that Americans don't like to talk about unless a natural disaster like Hurricane Katrina strikes, and then the conversation only lasts about as long as the news cycle. His family squatted in shacks. The children scavenged for food."

"I still like the relationship part of any story. You don't want your character to figure everything out and then at the end of the day, go home and eat soup from a can by herself."

"I took all of my rejection letters - there must have been thousands of them in a huge box - and I went out on the curb and burned them all, crying."

"As every office worker knows, it's not the hope that kills you. It's knowing it's the hope that kills you that kills you."
